Valluvar Kottam, Chennai

Valluvar Kottam is a prominent memorial in Chennai, built in 1976 to honour the Tamil poet-saint Tiruvalluvar, author of the Thirukkural. Designed in the shape of a temple chariot, the monument houses a life-size statue of Tiruvalluvar and features an auditorium in Chennai that can seat up to 4,000 people, making it the largest of its kind in Asia. A unique architectural highlight is that the structure stands without any pillar support. The corridors surrounding the hall are lined with granite columns engraved with all 1,330 verses of the Thirukkural, celebrating the richness of Tamil literature.
