Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Chennai

Located about 3 km from The Raintree Hotels, Kapaleeshwarar is one of the oldest and most-visited temples in Chennai. Initially, the temple was constructed in the 7th century CE by the Pallavas, where the current Santhome Church is located. However, the temple was demolished by the Portuguese in 1566 A.D. and was later reconstructed by the Vijayanagara kings in the Dravidian style of architecture. This famous temple in Chennai is home to a wide variety of carvings and sculptures that shed light on Hindu myths. On the street outside, you'll discover shops where you can purchase sweets, flowers, and incense as offerings to the deity, Shiva.
